Education, Expertise & Appointments
Meet Dr. Javidnia MD, MPH, FRCS(C)
Dr. Javidnia has focused her professional career on facial cosmetic surgery – thus helping people to restore, correct or modify the most prominent feature a person presents to the world: their face. As the only female facial cosmetic surgeon in Ottawa, her aesthetic vision is somewhat unique and she brings creativity, reason and moderation to all of her cases and a delicate touch to all of her procedures. Her extensive education, training and experience allows her to take on challenging cases with great skill, precision and utmost confidence.
After graduating from Western University with a Bachelor of Science (Honors in Human Physiology), Dr. Javidnia went on to complete her medical and residency training in Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) and Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Ottawa. In the final report of her five-year residency, Dr. Javidnia was hailed as one of the best surgeons to have ever gone through the program. From Ottawa she moved west to complete the University of California prestigious and world-renowned fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This fellowship required Dr. Javidnia to undergo an additional, rigorous examination and develop a case log that would be evaluated by a panel of her most esteemed peers. She is only one of two facial cosmetic surgeons in Ottawa to have undergone this exacting process.
Wanting to round out her understanding of the patient experience, Dr. Javidnia has completed a Masters Degree in Public Health at Harvard University. Through this program Dr. Javidnia has gained a thorough approach to patient satisfaction and successful outcomes of surgery (health outcomes research).
As a member of the Canadian and American Academies of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Javidnia has achieved the highest standards of her profession. Her active membership in the Evidence Based Medicine committee of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery keeps her continuously abreast of the latest research and advances in her field. Dr. Javidnia is an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa where she teaches the art of Facial Plastic Surgery to medical trainees.
Goals and Philosophy
Dr. Javidnia has a strong belief that the technical skill sets involved in facial cosmetic surgery are an integral part of her practice, but ultimately serve as a means to an end. She works continuously to develop and perfect these skills on an ongoing basis, but fundamentally, the core philosophies driving her practice are built upon the less tangible aspects of her work.
Dr. Javidnia’s practice is built on affecting positive change in people’s lives, be it through cosmetic, post-traumatic or reconstructive procedures. Her role as a facial plastic surgeon is to understand her patients’ aesthetic goals, counsel them how best to achieve those goals and then develop and deliver on a strategy that will help her patients recapture the happiness with their appearance. Communication, understanding, support and a highly developed surgical aptitude form the cornerstones of Dr. Javidnia’s practice.
